Below we address 5 non-invasive scalp treatments that can help regrow your hair!

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil has great anti-inflammatory properties in its essential oil form and is great to improve circulation and as an antioxidant. How exactly does rosemary oil improve hair growth?

  1. Vasodilation – Rosemary oil causes the blood vessels of the scalp to open up and hence improve blood supply to the hair follicles.
  2. Promotes Hair Growth – Rosemary oil stimulates hair growth comparable to that of minoxidil.
  3. Improves scalp health – Reduces dryness and flaking of the scalp.

It is key to use rosemary oil consistently and regularly to gain maximal benefits. 3-4 times per week initially, and allowing the rosemary oil to sit on the scalp for 2-3 hours has been shown to gain the best results.

Minoxidil is the most commonly used scalp topical medication for people suffering with hair thinning and hair loss. It is backed by numerous studies that have shown that minoxidil is effective in regrowing hair.

Minoxidil acts through dilation of the blood vessels that supply the hair follicles and hence increases the amount of nutrients coming to the follicles. This results in hair growth.

A common misconception is that when you stop using minoxidil, all your hair will fall out. However, if you remove Minoxidil the blood vessels will no longer dilate and hence less blood supply will come to the hair. The progress of the hair will revert to what it was previously.

Topical Finasteride

Finasteride is more commonly known for its oral preparation (Propecia) used in treatment for hair loss, however the topical preparation has gained a lot of traction recently due to its effectiveness with a lot less chance of having side effects. Finasteride blocks the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the main cause of androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss). This greatly reduces the inflammation of the hair follicles and helps the hair to regrow effectively. The chance of side effects with topical finasteride are 0.1%, whereas that of the oral form are 1-2%. Overall finasteride is a very effective method for managing male and female pattern hair loss, treating the root cause of the condition.
